Mackerel is available in various sub-varieties in Europe and South America. Like herring, it is a well-known species for human consumption, making it an ideal claim ingredient in European and North American pet foods. Similar to herring, the species contains substantial amounts of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which not only contribute to healthy joints and overall mobility, but also support a healthy skin and coat in cats and dogs.
Spray-dried mackerel hydrolysate is the premium version of IQI's mackerel meal. Spray-dried hydrolysate can be used for hypo-allergenic diets, for diets in which a higher protein (and lower ash) level is required, or for diets that require superior digestibility. Our mackerel hydrolysate contains over 71% protein and less than 10% ash. As with most spray-dried ingredients, IQI's dried mackerel hydrolysate also works perfectly for application in treats. The fineness of the spray-dried powder compared to a rendered meal has advantages in low-temperature treat applications.
