IQI Trusted Petfood Ingredients is proud to introduce MycoGlucan®, a new mycelium-derived ingredient designed to support the immune system of pets. MycoGlucan® is obtained from the mycelium of Aspergillus niger and is naturally rich in high-purity beta-glucans: bio-active carbohydrates known for their ability to strengthen both the innate and adaptive immune system.
As interest in functional ingredients continues to grow, MycoGlucan® offers a reliable solution for brands seeking to improve immunity in cats and dogs. The ingredient contains at least 35% beta-glucans (β(1,3/1,6)-glucans), scientifically recognized for their effectiveness in supporting immune responses. This makes MycoGlucan® a valuable addition to a wide range of pet food formulations, from complete dry and wet foods to treats and supplements.
Compared with yeast- or cereal-based glucans, mycelium-derived beta-glucans offer higher purity and minimal mannoprotein content. This purity enhances interaction with immune cells, resulting in a more effective immune response. The unique three-dimensional structure of these glucans also gives MycoGlucan® distinctive functional properties across different pet food applications.
Palatability tests confirm that MycoGlucan® is well accepted by pets, even at higher concentrations. In addition, MycoGlucan® is classified as a natural ingredient under FEDIAF guidelines and produced via natural surface fermentation using sugar molasses as a renewable resource. MycoGlucan® is also approved for use in the US as an AAFCO-listed feed material (Category 36.2 Extracted presscake), ensuring compliance in both European and North American markets.
